Welcome back to my Culinary Comedian Foodie Adventure!
What's more fun than hanging out with your buddy who really knows his wine? I mean, that's what he does for a living. Drinks and sells wine in L.A. The evening I spent with my friend John was a truly an adventerous chapter in my CCFA. We both had heard ot Eataly in the Flatiron District. The Flatiron is one of my all time favorite buildings so I will find any excuse to hit up that neighborhood.
Eataly is a vast Italian marketplace (think Chelsea Market but don't think Chelsea Market)...it is all things Italian and allows you to graze from space to space or plop your butt down, like we did, and stick with one establishment. Our destiny was Manzo! Smack dab in the middle of this lively, colorful and very aromatic space, sits the Manzo bar. John dove into the wine list and quickly we were clincking our glasses with a fabulous sparkling rose. This leg of my CCFA is getting off to a fabulous start!!
I perused the menu and we shared a roasted beet salad with hazelnuts and smoked ricotta. DAYUM. It was BEETiful and oh so good. And a perfect pairing for that night, which was a seared pork carpaccio with arugula. Bed, bath and beyond amazing. We paired that snack with a perfect Pinot Noir. As we were finishing up, the fun just couldn't be over...already? Nope. John and I caught a taxi to a cozy wine bar near Columbus Circle (Bin 71) where he knew the owner...so we had another bottle of wine along with a traditional pate & mousse plate w/ cornichons & baguette.
Heaven. Manhattan. Heaven. Manhattan.
Could the night get any better? Um...YEP...and in a big way.
I had a room at the Radisson on 48th and Lexington (thank you Sawyer and Alex!) for the night. I had dropped my luggage with the bellman earlier, but now it was time to kick it...Manhattan style. The front desk said I could upgrade my room for a nominal charge....it went from $12 to $64 for four different upgrades. Well, you know how I roll, I go for big one! I'm handed my card and I proceed to the elevator and hit the number 27. Cool. Top floor. Can't wait for the views!
As I open the door, I feel like one of those people on Extreme Home Makeover, as I enter the room I realize there is not one room, but four, not one large balcony, but two large balconies. I'm jumping up and down and in between tears and fits of laughter. Yep. I'm in the freakin' penthouse.
Perfect place to enjoy the rest of my evening and an even better place to wake up.Thanks for joining me on Part 3 of my CCFA! Check back soon and often bloggers. You don't want to miss out!!!
